Since opening our doors in January 2021, Precious Paws Veterinary Hospital has been growing right alongside the pets and families we care for. Led by Dr. Kay Metzgar, our Medical Director, we’re building an awesome team of people who genuinely care about animals and the people who love them.
Dr. Metzgar has over 25 years of veterinary experience and earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2000. Now, as our practice continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our crew. Veterinary Technician experience is a major plus, and Registered Veterinary Technicians are encouraged to apply!

What You’ll Be Doing
Every day looks a little different in veterinary medicine, but your role will help keep our hospital running smoothly and our patients happy, healthy, and comfortable.
You’ll help with:
- Assisting the DVM during outpatient appointments — restraint, vaccine prep, weighing pets, and more
- Caring for hospitalized patients, including feeding, watering, walking, and kennel care
- Assisting veterinary technicians with patient evaluations, exams, and diagnostic testing
- Cleaning and disinfecting exam rooms, kennels, equipment, and other areas
- Laundry (yes, veterinary medicine definitely involves laundry)
- Educating clients about their pets’ care
- Keeping inventory organized, stocked, and ready to go
- Administering medications under supervision
- Answering phones and helping clients feel welcome

You Might Be Our Person If You…
- Are 18+
- Have at least 1 year of veterinary experience (preferred)
- Are a self-starter who can keep up when things get busy
- Can multitask without losing sight of the details
- Communicate clearly and confidently
- Have strong critical-thinking skills
- Work well independently and as part of a team
- Bring a positive attitude to work
- Have a BIG heart for animals
- Are willing to advocate for patients who are scared, stressed, sick, or in pain
- Are comfortable with the physical side of the job, including lifting, carrying, and restraining patients, as well as standing, walking, bending, and squatting for extended periods
- Basically, we’re looking for someone who sees a nervous pup or uncomfortable kitty and thinks, “Okay, how can I make this little one feel safer?”

Pay: $15.00 – $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 42.0 per week
