Job Summary
We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Primary Care team.
Our Veterinary Assistants work closely with veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technicians to provide efficient, high-quality patient care. This is a hands-on clinical position focused on supporting appointments, diagnostics, treatments, procedures, and daily patient care.
This position is primarily based at IVVH Primary Care. As part of our collaborative hospital network, team members may occasionally be asked to provide coverage or support at an affiliated hospital, including IVVH Emergency & Critical Care, based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and RVTs with patient care, treatments, and procedures
- Safely and confidently restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Obtain accurate patient histories and communicate relevant information to the medical team
- Prepare exam rooms and patients for appointments and procedures
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples as appropriate to training and experience
- Assist with in-house diagnostics and laboratory testing
- Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures as appropriate
- Prepare and maintain treatment and procedure areas
- Maintain accurate patient medical records
- Assist with medication preparation and prescription requests as directed by the medical team
- Monitor patients and communicate changes or concerns promptly
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and appropriate stocking of clinical areas
- Follow hospital safety, infection-control, and patient-care protocols
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients when appropriate
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians, RVTs, Hosts, and other members of the hospital team
- Support opening, closing, and other daily clinical responsibilities
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Veterinary Assistant in a veterinary hospital
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Familiarity with common veterinary terminology, medications, diagnostics, and patient-care procedures
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to take direction, receive feedback, and adapt to changing patient and hospital needs
- Reliable transportation
- Flexibility to occasionally provide coverage at affiliated hospital locations based on operational needs
- Availability to work opening and/or closing shifts and Saturdays as scheduled
Preferred
- Two or more years of Veterinary Assistant experience
- Experience in a busy general practice or emergency veterinary hospital
- Experience with venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, radiology, and patient monitoring
- Experience with veterinary practice management software such as Instinct, ezyVet, Cornerstone, or similar

Schedule
This is an in-person position based primarily at IVVH Primary Care.
- Full-time or part-time opportunities based on hospital needs
- Daytime Primary Care shifts
- Opening and closing shift availability required based on schedule
- Saturday availability required
- Occasional coverage at affiliated hospital locations may be requested based on operational needs
