Veterinary Assistant Jobs in Arnold, MO at Arnold Animal Hospital
The veterinary assistant assists the veterinarian during outpatient appointments. They restrain patients, run blood tests, fecal tests, set up and read certain cytology’s, enter patient medical history into patients file, fill prescriptions prescribed by the doctor, and enter charges for treatments done during the visit.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Restrains patients during appointments, x-rays, nail trims, vaccines, and treatments.
Obtains temperature and weight for every patient.
Obtains accurate patient history and enters into the patients’ file.
- Runs tests requested by the Veterinarian.
- Fills prescriptions for patients and communicates medication information to clients when needed.
- Enters all charges into patient’s medical history.
- Build estimates based on the patient’s treatments, surgical, or hospitalization needs.
- Obtain and fill out all appropriate paper work needed such as euthanasia consent forms, hospitalization forms etc. w
- Measure patient for x-rays and take x-rays when applicable.
- Muzzle patients when applicable.
- Do blood draws and give certain vaccines when applicable (when released to do so).
Required skills:
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to take direction well.
Ability to work around blood, urine, stool, anal glands, and vomit.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent coping skills and ability to show compassion.
Ability to multitask and complete tasks in specified time frames.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Proficient with Microsoft office and Avimark medical software (preferred)
Education and Experience
Must be 18 years or older.
Previous experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to restrain an animal up to 30 pounds.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
