Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Veternarian Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for animal care and welfare, along with the technical expertise to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical treatment for pets. This role requires a strong understanding of veterinary practices, animal physiology, and the ability to handle various animal species with compassion and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment through proper aseptic techniques.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis, while accurately interpreting results.
- Provide nursing care to animals in critical condition, monitoring vital signs and administering medications as directed.
- Utilize veterinary terminology effectively when communicating with team members and pet owners.
- Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and treatments, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Maintain accurate medical records for each patient, documenting treatments, observations, and any changes in condition.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, nutrition, and preventive health measures.
- Assist in kennel duties as needed, including cleaning and maintaining a safe environment for all animals.
Skills
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy and physiology to provide effective care.
- Proficiency in veterinary terminology to communicate clearly within the veterinary team.
- Experience in animal handling, including dog handling techniques and restraint methods.
- Familiarity with veterinary critical care practices to support emergency situations effectively.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment for diagnostic testing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
