Position: Veterinary Assistant
Job Responsibilities: As a Veterinary Assistant at Purrfect Pals, you will play a crucial role in providing quality veterinary care and support for our feline residents. Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures.
Administering medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinary team.
Performing basic laboratory tests and sample collection for diagnostic purposes.
Preparing surgical suites, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for procedures.
Monitoring and documenting vital signs, post-operative recovery, and any changes in health conditions.
Assisting with dental cleanings and other routine procedures.
Educating adopters and volunteers on basic veterinary care and preventive measures.
Maintaining accurate medical records and updating patient information in the database.
Collaborating with other team members to provide comprehensive care and support to our feline residents.
Qualifications: To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; formal veterinary assistant training or certification is a plus.
Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter is preferred.
Knowledge of basic veterinary medical procedures, including medication administration and sample collection.
Ability to handle animals with care and compassion, especially cats of various temperaments.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
Conditions and Physical Requirements
Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to reach or feel; climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch
Possible exposure to deceased, sick, injured, unruly, vicious and or dangerous animals and frequent exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
Exposure to dust, fumes or airborne particles, potentially toxic or caustic chemicals. Animal feces, zoonotic diseases (can be passed from animal to human), bites and scratches and blood borne pathogens
