POSITION: Veterinary Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Animal Shelter
Responsibilities:
Provide technical and medical support for animals; maintain facility, equipment, records, and supplies. Assist with surgeries and treatment. Perform lab tests and communicate medical information to other staff. Routinely check the functionality of medical/lab equipment. Oversee the care of the animals in the clinic; maintain a safe and sterile environment. Update and enter information into medical records.
Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties:
- Working knowledge of animal restraint and care technique.
- The ability to competently handle unpleasant, as well as physically and emotionally demanding work.
- Skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below.
- Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations; ability to perform cashier duties; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the public; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to meet the special requirements listed below.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1 to 3 years’ Experience
Required Licenses or Certifications, Registrations, and Additional Qualifications
- Current South Carolina Driver’s License
- Certified in Humane Euthanasia, or ability to receive certification.
