We were founded by Dr. Lavelle in 1945 and sold to Dr. Johnston (Dr. Lavelle’s grandson) in 1997. We are a small one doctor practice which provides personalized service where you always see the same caring doctor.
We are seeking a full time Veterinary Assistant (30-40 hours) to join our growing hospital to provide exceptional care to our patients! You will work alongside other skilled employees in the daily flow of the hospital. The veterinary assistant is the entire team’s primary support. Job Description Overview:
· Assist with patient care and treatment
· Monitor hospitalized pets/aid in caring for animals after surgery
· Maintain inventory and stocking
· Maintain & sterilize surgical instruments/equipment
· Clean/disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas of the hospital.
· Answering phones (scheduling appointments, leaving notes, and refilling medications)
· Helping clients with their pets
· Assist appointments, prepping patients for surgery and minor procedures, surgical assisting, and pro-actively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests
· Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and caring manner
· Obtain accurate vitals, obtain medical histories, and/or note any changes of patient’s condition to DVM
· Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies
· Aiding with routine diagnostic tests (Taking radiographs, running bloodwork, and reading fecals)
· Assist with general cleaning and taking out trash
· Care and maintenance of all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations.
· High quality client communication on patient updates and questions
Qualifications:
References will be required
High School diploma or GED certificate
Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling
Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully
Must be 18yrs old or older
Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and a team player.
Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
1+ years of experience is required.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.). Should be able to lift 40lbs on own.
Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent or squatting position.
Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
