Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong understanding of veterinary practices. This role involves supporting veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians in providing high-quality medical care to animals, assisting with procedures, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for both animals and staff.
Responsibilities
Provide compassionate care to animals, including handling, restraining, and monitoring their well-being.
Administer medications as prescribed by the veterinarian, including injections and oral medications.
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each animal treated.
Perform routine laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis, under the supervision of veterinary staff.
Knowledge base to discuss proper animal care, nutrition, and preventive health measures with pet families.
Promote cleanliness of the clinic by following aseptic techniques and maintaining an organized workspace.
Employ low stress handling techniques when working with all patients.
Desire to learn about veterinary terminology and practices to effectively communicate with team members.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
Knowledge of basic veterinary procedures is essential.
Ability to administer medications accurately and safely.
A basic understanding of veterinary terminology to facilitate effective communication within the team.
Experience with animal handling and the desire to keep handling as low stress as possible for the patients.
Aseptic technique knowledge to maintain hygiene standards during procedures.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide empathetic support to pet owners and to efficiently process information when taking a medical history.
