VETERINARY ASSISTANT
Location: Fair Oaks, CA
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Friday | 8am–5pm
Compensation: $18–$23/hour, depending on experience
About the Role
We’re looking for a compassionate and proactive Veterinary Assistant to join our brand-new, independently owned veterinary hospital in Fair Oaks, CA. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a startup environment where your skills will be valued—and where you’ll have a voice in shaping the hospital’s systems, workflows, and culture.
You’ll play a hands-on role in supporting patient care, diagnostics, and treatments while helping ensure a clean, efficient, and welcoming environment for pets and clients. As the hospital grows, you’ll have the chance to take on more responsibility and pursue professional development with support from a team that values learning and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Assist with diagnostics, including blood draws, sample collection, and radiograph preparation
Prepare for surgeries, dentals, and treatments by setting up equipment and supplies
Safely restrain pets during exams, treatments, and procedures
Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition or behavior
Administer oral medications, vaccines, and subcutaneous fluids as directed
Walk dogs and ensure hospitalized pets have food, water, and clean enclosures
Provide basic client communication and discharge instructions as directed
Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, and equipment
Handle laundry and biohazard waste
Help restock and monitor inventory
Assist with reception as needed
Assist with general hospital operations and maintenance as needed
Qualifications
Must-Haves:
1+ year of experience in a veterinary setting
Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Preferred:
Experience assisting with surgeries or dental cleanings
Familiarity with veterinary practice software Daysmart
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
