Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Vet Assistant/Kennel Assistant to join our team at a busy veterinary clinic. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong understanding of animal husbandry practices. As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care, while also assisting veterinary staff with various tasks.
Responsibilities
Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kennel area, ensuring a safe environment for all animals.
Assist in administering medications as directed by veterinary staff.
Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns to the veterinary technician or veterinarian.
Support front desk operations by greeting clients and managing appointments as needed.
Help with laboratory tasks such as collecting samples or assisting with diagnostic procedures.
Utilize aseptic techniques when handling animals and cleaning equipment.
Participate in training sessions to enhance skills related to animal care and handling.
Requirements
Previous experience in a kennel, veterinary clinic, or similar environment is preferred.
Knowledge of equine care and animal husbandry practices is a plus.
Familiarity with medication administration and basic veterinary procedures is advantageous.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including lifting animals and standing for extended periods.
