SALARY: $39,749 to $55,648 Annually
GENERAL
JOB DESCRIPTION
Performs technical duties in arboriculture and forestry to maintain public trees’ health, safety, and aesthetics in Cheyenne. Responds to hazards, emergencies, and storm events, sometimes outside regular hours. Operates vehicles, equipment, and tools safely for tree maintenance and planting.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform skilled work in pruning, removal, stump grinding, planting, applying insecticides, fertilizers, herbicides, watering, mulching, and preparing sites.
Operate forestry maintenance equipment such as chainsaws, stump grinders, aerial bucket trucks, grapple loaders, dump trucks, chipper, sprayers, loaders, and hydraulic tools.
Climb trees using industry-standard techniques for maintenance.
Follow proper pruning techniques based on Arboriculture Best Management Practices.
Conduct routine safety and maintenance inspections on equipment.
Install cones and signs for safety during tree work affecting public areas.
Maintain logs and records of work activities.
Inspect trees for health issues like insects or disease.
Participate in on-call duties and respond to requests promptly.
Inventory trees using Tree Plotter software.
Check irrigation systems periodically.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with special events and non-routine duties.
Respond to emergency calls during and outside work hours.
Handle public inquiries courteously.
Respect jurisdictional rules of other divisions.
Perform additional duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of arboriculture practices in urban settings.
Manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to make sound decisions and exercise judgment.
Ability to obtain necessary licenses and certifications.
Willingness to work overtime and participate in community programs.
Teamwork and inspection skills for equipment and work quality.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in related fields.
Certifications and Licenses
Required at hire or within one year: Wyoming CDL Class A/B, ISA Arborist Certification.
Preferred: Pesticide license, First Aid, CPR.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must meet physical demands including climbing, walking, lifting up to 80 lbs., and working in outdoor conditions with exposure to various hazards.
Working Environment
Outdoor work with exposure to noise, chemicals, weather, traffic, and heights up to 75 ft.
