Entry-level and Skilled Trimmers and Climbers. On-the-job training is provided. This role is ideal for those who enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions – wind, rain, sunshine, or snow. Our crews trim, top, and reshape trees to safely remove low‑hanging, dead, and excess branches, creating clearance for utility powerlines.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Trim and remove trees by climbing with a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, lift truck, or from the ground using gasoline, air, and hand‑powered saws and pruners.
  • Use wedges, sledges, and chain saws for felling and splitting logs.
  • Operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Plan, assign, direct, and coordinate work.
  • Obtain written or oral permission from property owners and coordinate access.
  • Maintain good customer and public relations.
  • Spray areas with equipment to prevent further growth.
  • Load/unload trucks and feed debris into a wood chipper.
  • Repair minor damage to lawns, fences, and walkways.
  • Service gasoline, air, hand‑powered tools, and other equipment.
  • Relay hand signals, direct traffic, drive, and operate trucks and equipment.
  • Operate equipment such as hydraulic tools, power saws, winches, buckets, chippers, and sprayers.
  • Use a bucket near energized lines to remove branches.
  • Keep trucks and work areas clear and orderly.
  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards.
  • Cooperate with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways.
  • Set up barriers, warning signs, flags, and markers to protect employees and the public.
  • Be trained to perform tree and bucket rescue.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Inspect and ensure proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and equipment.
  • Use hand tools such as axes, handlines, saws, block and tackle, and pruners.
  • Request repair or replacement when necessary.
  • Maintain good housekeeping on trucks and at work locations.
  • Perform other related work as assigned by superiors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods.
  • Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally and physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
  • Ability to identify tree and shrub species.
  • No fear of heights.
  • Good hand‑to‑eye coordination.
  • Willing and able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, including holidays and weekends.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Entry‑level position, no experience required.
  • Previous experience is a plus.

Pre‑Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications

  • Ability to obtain a Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License when required.
  • Ability to obtain Herbicide license when required.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to report and/or travel for storm emergencies.

Physical Requirements

  • Rare:
    Sitting, kneeling, crawling, color vision, climbing stairs.
  • Occasional:
    Stooping, squatting, climbing on/off trucks, climbing ladders, pushing, reading.
  • Frequent:
    Carrying, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, body‑twisting, hearing/speech range, lifting up to 10 lbs., manual dexterity, speaking clearly, walking.
  • Continuous:
    Standing, sense of touch, gripping, seeing distant, reaching, range‑of‑motion, depth perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., climbing poles, sense of touch.

Safety

  • Work in all temperatures; exposure to irritating plants and insects.
  • Work near energized parts or equipment.
  • Work in traffic and near high‑voltage wires.
  • Work around excessive noise from machines, jackhammers, gas drills, and other equipment with proper hearing protection.
  • Exposure to hazards of working near power equipment, traffic, falling limbs.
