Summary

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking two members to contribute to landscape stewardship and historic preservation projects alongside Stones River National Battlefield staff.

The Traditional TradesAdvancementProgram-Landscape Stewardship Corps is intended for enthusiastic individuals who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of landscape preservation or horticulture.Noeducationor experience in the field is necessary.

Location Details/Description:Stones River National Battlefield preserves, protects, and promotes understanding of the significant sites and historic events associated with the Battle of Stones River, fought during the American Civil War. The battlefield cultural landscape consists of rolling meadows, fields, and cedar tree glades, and includes one of the earliest national cemeteries.

The park is in the historic city of Murfreesboro, Tennessee about 30 miles from Nashville. The park is located in a suburban area and is served by public transit but is most easily accessed by car.

Position Overview:Under guidance from Stones River National Battlefield staff, ACE members will gain valuablehands-on experiencein monument preservation, horticulture, arboriculture, trails maintenance, and invasive plant management. Project work will include tree planting, tree root aeration, assessing site conditions, disease and insect treatment, turf management, historic structure preservation, interpreting preservation projects through social media, publications or exhibits and educational programs, and other tasks as needed.

This individual placement is meant to facilitateprofessional developmentand promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule:Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance:The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $720/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority:Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service.

Housing:A housing allowance of $250/week will be provided to offset the costs of housing.

Professional Development Stipend:$1,000 ofprofessional developmentfunds will be available to participants for pre-approved uses.

Provided Training/Orientation:ACE members will receive position-specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

Qualifications

Required:

Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts.

Members must have High School Diploma or GED.

Members must be ages 18-30 (up to 35 if a U.S. veteran).
