We are seeking a reliable Tennis Court Maintenance Assistant to join our Racquets Department. They will report directly to the Tennis Court Supervisor. The Tennis Court Maintenance Assistant will perform their duties to help provide assistance in the maintenance of the 12 clay tennis courts at Donalda Club and also other areas surrounding the Clubhouse grounds including the practice facility, pool area and formal lawn in a manner which best meets Donalda Club’s standard.

Due to the responsibility of this position, the incumbent must have experience in the maintenance of clay tennis courts and have practical knowledge of the equipment necessary to maintain the courts and grounds.

Shift Coverage We are looking to fill:

We are currently seeking coverage for weekend and holiday shifts. The successful candidate must be flexible and available to work evening closing shifts.

What You’ll Do:

Court Maintenance:

  • Prepare tennis courts daily for member use, including sweeping, lining, watering, rolling, leveling, topdressing, and scarifying
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks such as light cleaning and waste removal, court washroom cleaning, and maintaining chairs, tables, and other court-side items
  • Seasonally bring out scorecards and clocks as play transitions between north and south courts
  • Conduct safety checks for issues such as protruding nails or uneven lines and address promptly
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of the tennis bubble as needed.
  • Monitor and adjust the irrigation system as required.
  • Communicate with the racquets desk regarding court conditions (e.g., too soft for play)
  • Ensure garbage bins are changed, towels are restocked, and viewing areas are tidy and organized
  • Maintain fitness and squash areas, ensuring cleanliness and functionality
  • Perform any additional duties as specified by the Tennis Court Supervisor

Seasonal Preparation:

  • Spring Preparation:
  • Paint net posts, ground poles, and fences.
  • Inspect and prep water fountains and ice machines.
  • Check outdoor inventory (nets, straps, net posts, chairs, tables) and test the sprinkler system, repairing breaks and ensuring valve box lids are secure.
  • Ensure light timers are functional.
  • Fall Preparation:
  • Apply top dressing to outdoor courts after closures.
  • Remove nets, poles, lines, windscreens, and other seasonal items from courts.
  • Pack and store seasonal equipment to prevent degradation.
  • Winter Preparation:
  • Assist with unpacking and organizing the tennis bubble, lights, and insulation.
  • Prepare south courts for closure, including removing center dividers, poles, fencing, and windscreens.
  • Support the closure of north courts, removing necessary equipment.

Grounds Maintenance:

  • Maintain surrounding grounds, including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, spraying, and fertilizing areas such as the parking lot, lawns, formal garden, and pool area
  • Keep parking lot and grounds tidy by removing leaves, debris, and trash
  • Clean shoe cleaning brushes and revolving door areas
  • Maintain decorative fountains, range bunkers, and parking lot lights

What We’re Looking For:

  • Completion of High School Education (Grade 10) or equivalent is required
  • Knowledge of the game of Tennis and the principles surrounding etiquette is an asset
  • Experience in Tennis Court and grounds maintenance is recommended
  • Good communication skills of written and spoken English language
  • Must be able to work under pressure while maintaining composure and performance standard during busy peak periods
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors for long periods of time
