Temporary Laborer Register Jobs in Memphis, Tennessee, USA at Shelby County
Shelby County Government is looking for individuals who are interested in being considered for Temporary Laborer (foreman, pest control, skilled and unskilled) opportunities. Applications are accepted and valid January through December of each year.
Positions are only available when there is a vacancy within the hiring department . As positions become available, applications will be considered based on experience, education and special requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
100% –
Works under direct supervision to perform physical labor / work assignments of an unskilled nature generally in an outside location.
1. Experience preferably in an outdoor environment; and
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs unskilled labor.
2. Assists in maintenance work : clearing trash and brush; cleaning ditches, etc.
3. Performs maintenance on lawn mower equipment and tractors, flags traffic, spots trucks for dumping and other delivery, operates non-complex equipment, brings supplies and equipment to labor sites, cuts grass, loads and unloads materials, and clean vehicles.
4. Operates small tools and equipment to clear and clean ditches and natural waterways.
5. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSA’s
KSAs –
1. Ability to work as directed and follow oral and written instructions.
2. Ability to communicate verbally with supervisor.
3. Knowledge of mowing equipment.
4. Physical ability to perform assigned work tasks.
5. Ability to learn simple techniques from reasonable instructions.
6. Ability to cooperate and work with other personnel.
7. Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and public citizens.
8. Knowledge of the use of hand tools, such as shovels and picks, and power equipment, such as weed eaters, brush cutters, and handheld sprayers used in vector control work and their proper maintenance.
Physical Requirements
Some positions may require heavy lifting, pulling, climbing, standing for along time, etc. while performing the essential job duties.
Special Requirements
1. Some of the temporary positions may require working at multiple locations, if needed.
2. Some of the temporary positions may require working in a secured prison environment.
4. May require a valid Tennessee Driver’s license or secure one upon date of employment.
5. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
