Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW)

Responsibilities
Primary responsibility is to support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non‑motorized water recreation groups. Work will include trailering a mobile self‑serve decontamination system throughout the Northeast Region to educate outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non‑motorized watercraft users about aquatic invasive species and how to properly clean, drain, and dry their equipment. Outreach will include providing surveys, attending user group events and expositions, and educating recreational outfitters.
The position will report to the Denver Colorado Parks and Wildlife Office for assignment.
Boat inspection training will be provided. When outreach is not needed, the position will support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: watercraft inspection and decontamination, quality control assessment, inventory management, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry.
This position requires regular overnight travel and distance driving. Early morning, evening & weekend work required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Good driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays is mandatory.
- Ability to drive long hours and remain alert.
- Must be willing to be flexible with the weekday and weekend work schedule.
- Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
Fleet and Driving Standards
Pursuant to the DNR‑120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State‑owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State‑owned vehicle.
To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:
- Have an assigned State fleet vehicle.
- Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position.
- Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
- Knowledge of boat and trailer anatomy, ability to trailer boats/decontamination (power washer) units on highways and steep mountain roads.
- Experience with Microsoft Word applications – Word, Excel, Access.
