Hourly Rate: $16.00-$20.50 (Dependent on Experience & Skill Set)
EVS asks all TA candidates to complete a Technician Assistant Leveling Test during the interview process. This test measures math skills, critical thinking, and medication administration for TA levels I, II & III.
Job Summary:
The Surgery Technician Assistant (TA) is responsible for assisting the surgeon and technicians before, during, and after surgical procedures. They assist with preparing animals for surgery, maintaining a sterile environment, various cleaning duties, and providing post-operative care to surgical patients, all under the direct supervision of the surgeon and Lead Surgery RVT.

Education & Experience:
Required: High School graduate or equivalent.
Required: Minimum 1-year related experience in a veterinary clinic setting.
Preferred: Minimum 1-year related experience in a Surgery department at specialty veterinary hospital.
Preferred: Technician Assistant Certification.
Preferred: Gas Sterilizer Certification.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Restrain animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
Assist surgery technicians and/or surgeon with animals for various procedures.
Assist in taking radiographs.
Pull instrumentation needed for surgical procedures.
Open ORs to be used for surgery.
Set up ORs and clean them after procedures.
Clean, wrap, and sterilize instruments.
Knowledge of names and locations of all instruments and equipment used in surgery.
Scrub in and assist in surgeries as needed.
Feed and walk patients as needed.
Perform routine laboratory procedures.
Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas.
Set up/clean recovery cages for surgical patients.
Perform inventory and restocking duties as required.

Schedule:
A full-time EVS employee averages at least 36 hours per work week. Hours may vary and depend on the department(s) and needs of the hospital.
A typical schedule for this position consists of 4 x 10 hour shifts weekly Monday-Thursday.
