Job Description

Shared Services: Animal Care Facility (Unscheduled, On-Call)

Job Summary: The Supervisor-Animal Care is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of physical plant operations in multiple satellite animal facilities including support of animal husbandry and technical procedures. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science or related fields required. Minimum five years of experience in a laboratory animal facility offering experience in hands on animal care and use required.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of housing requirements, environmental parameters, and health and sanitation standards. Must have thorough working knowledge of Public Health Service Policy on the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, The Guide to the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the Animal Welfare Act, the Health Research Extension Ace, and all Federal, State, and local legislation and policies which pertain to the care and use of laboratory animals. An understanding of the Loma Linda University policy on the care and use of laboratory animals is also a requirement. Read and write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; good interpersonal skills; team player yet work independently; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; organize and prioritize workload; manage multiple assignments effectively; accept direction; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; detail-oriented. Use computer and software programs necessary to the position; perform basic math functions; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) licenses preferred.
