Ensures the safety, promotion, and engagement of campers during lake recreational activities. Creates a fun and engaging environment for campers by leading various activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting participation in camp activities.
Summer Camp
Schedule:
May 26, 2025 to August 07, 2025
Salary: $15.00 hourly
Additional $1.00 hourly for returning hires
A valid driver’s license is required to drive the boat
$1,000 commitment bonus (based on performance and active employment at the end of the program)
Major Responsibilities &
Duties
Provides safe and effective services
Adheres to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.
Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.
Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.
Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Provides lifeguard and camp services
Monitors swimmers and enforces safety rules.
Looks for hazards and prevents accidents.
Ensures campers are compliant with camp rules.
Advises campers on water safety through orientations and engagement.
Actively monitors campers during activities, addressing behavioral issues promptly.
Recognizes and praises camper achievements and positive behavior to build confidence and encourage participation.
Maintains all equipment used for recreational activities.
Drives Boys Town vehicle or boat as needed.
Maintains cleanliness in dorms, bathrooms, common areas, and dining halls, and assists with laundry duties.
Assists with basic food preparation tasks, adhering to food safety guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the Boys Town Model and water safety.
Basic practices of operating a boat and laws/regulations for lake use.
Effective communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Decision-making skills in critical moments and ability to lead youth.
Required Qualifications
Minimum age of 19 years.
Successful swimming test.
Lifeguard Certification within 10 days of hire.
Iowa or Nebraska Boat license or ability to obtain within 30 days.
Preferred Qualifications
Water Safety Instructor Certification.
Current Lifeguard/CPR Certification.
Valid driver’s license.
Other duties may be assigned as needed to meet organizational needs.

Work Environment
Must have sufficient agility, endurance, and sensory abilities to perform job duties in outdoor lake environments, sometimes under stressful or physically demanding conditions.
