PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Spa Manager is responsible for the overall management, performance and day-to-day operation of the spa within a high-end safari lodge environment.

The role requires an experienced spa professional with strong operational and leadership capability, a commercial mindset and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.

The Spa Manager will lead the spa team, maintain high treatment and service standards, oversee bookings and daily operations, manage stock and product usage, drive revenue and retail performance, and ensure that the spa consistently operates in line with the lodge’s standards and brand expectations.

This is a hands-on management position suited to an experienced Spa Manager or senior spa professional who is ready to take full ownership of a spa operation.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 5 years’ experience within the spa and wellness industry, with significant experience in a management or senior supervisory position

• Proven experience managing a spa within a luxury hotel, lodge, resort or high-end wellness environment

• Relevant qualification in Somatology, Beauty Therapy, Wellness or equivalent (ITEC, CIDESCO or similar)

• Strong knowledge of spa treatments, massage, body treatments and beauty therapies

• Strong understanding of spa operations, treatment protocols and guest service standards

• Proven experience leading, managing and developing a team

• Experience with spa bookings, scheduling and daily operational coordination

• Strong commercial understanding, including driving treatment revenue, retail sales and overall spa performance

• Experience with stock management, ordering, stock counts and controlling product usage and wastage

• Strong administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Professional grooming and presentation

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities

• Willingness to live on-site and work within a safari lodge environment

• A hands-on approach with the ability to step into treatments and operational duties when required

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Spa Operations & Management

• Take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the spa

• Ensure the spa is fully operational, organised and guest-ready at all times

• Oversee treatment schedules, bookings, therapist allocation and daily workflow

• Ensure all treatments and services are delivered consistently and professionally

• Maintain and implement spa operating procedures and standards

• Identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions

• Ensure the spa environment consistently reflects the standards of the lodge

• Coordinate effectively with lodge management and other departments

• Manage opening and closing procedures and daily operational checklists

Team Leadership & Staff Management

• Lead, motivate and manage the spa team effectively

• Allocate daily duties and treatment schedules according to operational requirements

• Monitor staff performance, attendance, punctuality and professional standards

• Conduct regular team briefings and provide clear operational direction

• Coach and mentor therapists and junior team members

• Identify training requirements and support ongoing professional development

• Maintain a positive, professional and accountable team culture

• Address performance or conduct issues appropriately and escalate where necessary

• Support recruitment and onboarding of new spa team members where required

• Lead by example and maintain a hands-on presence within the spa

Guest Experience & Service Excellence

• Take ownership of the overall guest experience within the spa

• Ensure guests receive a warm, professional and personalised service from arrival through to departure

• Monitor guest feedback and identify opportunities to improve the guest journey

• Handle guest concerns and complaints professionally and resolve issues wherever possible

• Ensure guest preferences, special requests and VIP requirements are communicated to the team

• Maintain strict standards of guest privacy, confidentiality and professionalism

• Build strong relationships with lodge guests and encourage repeat spa visits

• Ensure the spa experience aligns with the overall luxury safari lodge offering

Revenue, Sales & Commercial Performance

• Take responsibility for achieving spa revenue and performance targets

• Drive treatment bookings and maximise therapist utilisation

• Promote treatments, packages, upgrades and wellness experiences appropriately

• Drive retail product sales and ensure therapists are confident in product recommendations

• Monitor daily and monthly spa revenue and identify trends or opportunities

• Analyse treatment performance, occupancy and revenue where applicable

• Identify opportunities to increase revenue without compromising the guest experience

• Work with lodge management and relevant departments on spa promotions and packages

• Ensure pricing, treatment menus and promotional information remain accurate and current

Stock Control & Procurement

• Take full responsibility for spa stock management

• Monitor stock levels and ensure sufficient product and operational supplies are available

• Conduct regular stock counts and maintain accurate inventory records

• Place orders and liaise with suppliers as required

• Monitor product usage and identify excessive usage or wastage

• Ensure products, equipment, linen and guest amenities are stored correctly

• Manage stock within agreed budgets and minimise unnecessary expenditure

• Ensure retail displays are maintained to a high standard

Treatment Standards & Quality Control

• Maintain consistently high treatment standards across the spa

• Ensure all therapists follow approved treatment protocols and procedures

• Conduct regular quality checks and observe treatments where appropriate

• Ensure treatment rooms are correctly prepared and presented

• Ensure therapists maintain appropriate consultation and aftercare procedures

• Maintain strong knowledge of products, treatments and wellness trends

• Support therapists with treatment techniques and product knowledge where required

• Step into treatment delivery when operationally necessary

Hygiene, Health & Safety

• Ensure strict hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained throughout the spa

• Ensure treatment rooms, equipment, bathrooms and wellness areas are cleaned and maintained appropriately

• Ensure equipment and tools are correctly cleaned, sterilised and stored

• Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed

• Monitor the safe storage and handling of products, oils and equipment

• Report maintenance, safety or operational concerns promptly

• Ensure the spa remains compliant with internal lodge policies and operating procedures

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain accurate daily and monthly spa records

• Monitor bookings, treatment performance, staff schedules and attendance

• Prepare regular operational and performance reports for management

• Maintain accurate stock and inventory records

• Assist with budgeting and expenditure monitoring

• Ensure relevant spa documentation, checklists and procedures are kept up to date

• Communicate operational updates and performance issues to lodge management

• Maintain accurate records relating to guest feedback and incidents

Training & Professional Development

• Identify skills gaps and training requirements within the team

• Coordinate product and treatment training where required

• Conduct regular team training and refresher sessions

• Stay informed about developments within the spa and wellness industry

• Introduce relevant new treatments, products or service improvements where appropriate

• Encourage continuous professional development within the team

Teamwork & Lodge Operations

• Work closely with lodge management, reception, reservations, housekeeping and other departments

• Ensure effective communication between the spa and wider lodge operation

• Assist with VIP guests, special occasions and group bookings

• Support lodge operations during particularly busy periods where required

• Maintain a flexible, hands-on approach to the operational needs of the property

• Uphold the reputation and standards of the lodge at all times
