This position is seasonal work. Hours will vary and may include weekends to facilitate cleaning of the various parks. Average of 30-40 hours per week. Incumbent must be able to work independently when needed. Hourly rate of pay is $15 per hour.
Position Summary
This is a general ground maintenance and landscaping work. Work involves performance of a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of Village parks, public grounds, and open land maintenance. Work includes the operation of equipment and physical labor. This job requires a drivers liscence and background check.
Position Accountabilities
- Performs a variety of tasks and maintenance of parks, recreation fields, buildings and facilities.
- Performs land maintenance activities including mowing grass, sweeping and raking grounds.
- Plants and trims trees and shrubs; performs general gardening, rakes and seeds areas, and pulls weeds.
- Performs custodial tasks in public buildings and facilities. Cleans and conducts preventative checks and maintenance of vehicles and equipment used.
- Assists in preparing for special events and activities, including moving furniture, placing temporary fencing, and handling supplies and equipment.
- Collects and disposes of litter.
- Ensures that equipment is used safely and in accordance with standard procedures and precautions.
- Maintains safe work areas and equipment, promptly reports work hazards, as necessary. Reports all work-related injuries immediately, complies with all safety rules and attends appropriate safety programs.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications / Skills
- Knowledge of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction work.
- Some knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings and public grounds.
- Knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards of the work.
- Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in all weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to carry, climb, drag heavy items, drive in inclement weather, give first aid, grab, grip, lift heavy and/or awkward equipment, read maps, use protective equipment, use a radio, read and follow instructions and technical materials, reason, sit, stand for extended periods and walk.
Working Conditions
- Much of the work is performed outdoors and mandates driving, walking, lifting and climbing. In these cases, severe weather extremes may be encountered.
- The job incumbent should exercise common sense and take necessary breaks, practice proper body alignment, and alert a supervisor of any discomfort, as necessary.
Benefits, Salary, and Application
This position is seasonal work. There are no benefits other than paid time off per state law. Hours will vary and may include weekend to facilitate cleaning of the various parks.
