Purpose
of Your Position
A Labourer physically assists City work crews.
Duties
The Urban Forestry Term position will assist the city arborists with duties related to tree maintenance, tree planting and other urban forestry related duties. General Parks maintenance including tree, plant and lawn care, irrigation upkeep, garbage pick-up, raking, shovelling, weeding, planting, assisting in pruning trees and shrubs, assisting in maintaining flower beds, provide assistance duringcommunity eventsheld in parks, which may include setting up and taking down equipment, cleaning before and after events, and use of small equipment and hand tools.
Adhere to allsafety protocolsand guidelines to ensure a safe environment for both workers and park visitors.
Dealing with the public, contractors, other City and event staff.
Qualifications
High school Diploma or Equivalent
Experience in horticulture, turf grass management or arboriculture would be an asset
Excellent customer service and communications skills
Flexibilityandteamwork
Driver’s Licence Class 5 (Classes 3 and 1 would be considered an asset)
A Level II First Aid Certificate would be an asset
Applicants must be physically able to perform the job duties
Physical Demands
50 lbs lifting ability. Working in all weather conditions.
Additional Hiring Information
Pay Rate:$32.75 as of April 1st + 14% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits
