Roles & Responsibilities:
Animal Husbandry:
Participate daily in the general care of animals, interactive programs and maintenance of exhibits.
Prepare food for animals including weighing and cutting seafood, measuring pellet diets and preparing vegetables
Feed collection animals per daily diet plan in conjunction with training goals
Provide daily written report on animals with regard to general appearance, appetite, behavior, etc.
Maintain feeding and training records
Perform regular water quality analysis, maintain water quality equipment and log
Participate in capturing, restraining, and moving animals
Assist Veterinarian staff in the treatment of collection animals
Maintenance:
Oversee cleaning and disinfection of utensils, work tools, and workspaces
Maintain high standards of exhibit appearance in and around enclosures including conducting regular habitat maintenance activities
Perform minor or routine maintenance of enclosures & equipment and report all other maintenance needs to Assistant Curator
Maintain maintenance logs as required for SCUBA equipment, air compressor, etc.
Public Education:
Conduct daily talks designed to educate the public on the Aquatics Department animal collection and mentor staff on same
Respond to questions from the public concerning the animals and exhibits
Provide information to education and park staff as needed regarding animals and exhibits
Convey the Park image and code of professional ethics in words and actions at all times
Other Duties:
Other duties as assigned by Sea Life Park Leadership
Working Conditions: Indoors/outdoors, in/under water, during a variety of conditions. Ability to lift 30 lbs., majority of time spent walking, standing. Physical labor required.
Required Education / Experience:
3+ years of demonstrated experience with marine animal care, including life support systems.
A college degree in Biology, Zoology, or Marine Biology highly desired, but equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Must be SCUBA open water certified and be able to pass a dive test.
Requires Rescue Diver SCUBA certification by a nationally recognized instructors association (e.g. PADI, NAUI)
Must have CPR and First Aid Certification.
