Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Perform laboratory work including phlebotomy, diagnostic radiology, and veterinary laboratory testing to support accurate diagnoses.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary protocols and ensure proper animal restraint for procedures.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures, manage general anesthesia protocols, and oversee veterinary anesthesia monitoring to ensure patient safety.
- Handle animal restraint and animal handling techniques across various species, including dogs, cats, horses, and exotic animals, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Operate medical equipment such as X-ray machines, radiology diagnostics tools, and laboratory analyzers with precision and adherence to safety standards.
- Maintain detailed records using veterinary software for patient histories, treatment plans, laboratory results, and client communication to ensure comprehensive documentation.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Technician or similar role with strong knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal physiology.
- Kennel experience along with animal husbandry skills to manage daily care routines effectively.
- Hands-on experience with dental terminology and procedures related to pet dentistry.
- Critical care experience in emergency medicine settings with the ability to perform IV insertion, vascular access, animal catheterization, and assist in veterinary surgical procedures.
- Familiarity with general anesthesia protocols, medication administration, radiology diagnostics including X-ray imaging, and diagnostic radiology techniques.
- Strong animal handling skills across different species with an emphasis on dog handling and animal restraint techniques.
- Ability to operate medical equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Excellent client communication skills to educate pet owners about care plans and treatment options.
- Knowledge of veterinary laboratory work including phlebotomy and laboratory testing procedures.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent credential is required; ongoing professional development is encouraged.
