Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center & Urgent Care is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our collaborative, fast-paced hospital team.
We are looking for an RVT who enjoys variety, is confident with anesthesia and technical patient care, and can flex between surgical procedures, anesthesia monitoring, urgent care, triage, and supporting doctors with appointments based on the needs of the hospital.
This is a great opportunity for an RVT who enjoys being an adaptable member of a clinical team rather than working in just one area. While this position will not be dedicated exclusively to surgery or urgent care, these areas are an important focus of the role and will require someone who is comfortable stepping in where their skills are most needed.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should have experience or proficiency in:
- Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Surgical and procedural patient preparation and assistance
- Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
- Patient assessment and monitoring
- Urgent care and triage
- Recognizing changes in patient condition and communicating concerns appropriately
- Assisting veterinarians with procedures, diagnostics, and appointments
- In-house laboratory diagnostics
- Patient restraint and low-stress handling
- Client communication and education
- Working collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment
Experience in surgery, anesthesia, urgent care, emergency medicine, specialty practice, or high-volume general practice is strongly preferred.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Monitor patients safely under anesthesia using appropriate monitoring equipment and techniques.
- Prepare patients for surgical and procedural services, including IV catheter placement, blood collection, clipping, and surgical preparation.
- Assist veterinarians with surgical, dental, and other procedures as needed.
- Step into procedural and surgical support when staffing needs require additional coverage.
- Monitor anesthesia recovery and provide high-quality nursing care throughout the perioperative period.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments within the RVT scope of practice.
- Support urgent care services, including patient assessment, triage, stabilization, and treatment as directed by the medical team.
- Assist with evening urgent care services and help maintain efficient patient flow.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate veterinarian.
- Assist veterinarians with outpatient appointments, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures as needed.
- Perform venipuncture, place IV catheters, and collect laboratory samples.
- Perform appropriate in-house laboratory diagnostics.
- Maintain accurate anesthesia, treatment, and medical records.
- Provide compassionate client communication, including discharge instructions and medication education as directed.
- Support other clinical areas and departments as needed based on hospital staffing and patient-care needs.
Hospital Support Responsibilities
- Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked treatment, surgical, and procedure areas.
- Prepare surgical packs, instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
- Assist with equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Communicate proactively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and supervisors regarding patient and operational needs.
- Support team workflow by flexing between departments and responsibilities as hospital needs change.
- Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient hospital environment.
Qualifications
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license required.
- Experience monitoring anesthesia and assisting with surgical procedures required.
- Experience with urgent care or triage strongly preferred.
- Strong technical nursing skills, including venipuncture and IV catheter placement.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in changing clinical situations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Willingness to flex between surgery, urgent care, appointments, and other clinical responsibilities based on hospital needs.

Additional Requirements
The nature of the Registered Veterinary Technician role requires:
- On-site presence.
- Ability to see, hear, and rapidly process activity in a fast-paced clinical environment. Close vision is essential for completing job duties.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to safely handle instruments, equipment, medications, and patients.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; reach, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to safely handle and restrain animals.
- Ability to lift pets up to 25 pounds independently and up to 55 pounds with team assistance.
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and safely handle medications, anesthetic agents, and cleaning products.
- Strong verbal communication skills in English.
Compensation, Benefits & Schedule
- $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience
