Registered Veterinary Technician Jobs in Fairfield, OH at Animal Friends Humane Society
The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), under general direction from the Executive Director, has primary responsibilities including:
Assist shelter veterinarian in achieving daily objectives of animal care
Collaborate with the Executive Director and other department supervisors to ensure a productive and efficient work environment that maximizes animal flow and minimizes length of stay.
Assist in creating standard operating procedures relating to daily animal care and spay/neuter. Flexibility in adapting to new standard operating procedures and communicating these to the medical/surgical team.
Responsible for daily care of surgical and medical management and administration of anesthetic/analgesic agents and other medications.
Administer injections such as anesthetics, pain-medications, vaccinations and other medications. Provide treatments and supportive care as directed by attending veterinarian.
Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture and administer fluids as needed.
Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and postoperative phases.
Maintain all controlled substance drug logs and patient records. Must be familiar with federal and state-controlled substance laws.
Maintain high team morale while promoting individual growth and development.
Knowledge of infectious disease and animal welfare.
Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to fulfill the organization’s mission.
Ensure the safety of pets and staff by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining a clean, sterile and organized workspace
Data entry and helping to fill prescriptions
Provide professional, efficient service at all times
Possess knowledge of a variety of surgical procedures and ability to anticipate what supplies and equipment are needed for surgical set-up
Please note: All personnel may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.
This position is a fulltime position.

Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Valid driver’s license with driving privileges in the State of Ohio.
Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program with active Ohio license
Must possess a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs and common diseases including their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care guidelines
Must be able to operate and maintain equipment pertinent to carrying out their duties including but not limited to laboratory equipment, anesthesia and surgical equipment
Must be able to work independently and use critical thinking skills
Ability to utilize effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
Computer literate in a Windows environment to perform work.
