The Position
The City of Diamond Bar Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a highly energetic, customer service oriented individual to join its team. Weekly schedule will include 30 hours per week:
Tuesday through Saturday. Actual work hours and schedule vary according to program and department needs.

Job Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist will assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and supervision of youth and adult sports programs, field allocations and reservations, youth and teen programs, and Citywide special events.
Responsibilities include coordinating daily program operations, training, scheduling, and supervising part-time staff and volunteers; ensuring the safe and effective delivery of recreational services; monitoring program activities to ensure compliance with City policies and procedures, providing exceptional customer service to participants and the public; maintaining program records and reports; and performing related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
May include but, are not limited to the following:
Knowledge of theories, principles, practices, and programs common to the field of recreation and community services; modern office methods, practices, and procedures including operating a computer, cell phone and general electronic devices; supervision of part-time and volunteer staff; and techniques of marketing for promotional program area. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and make oral presentations; work well and collaborate with other City departments and agencies with regards to department activities and programs;
establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with City officials, supervisors, co-workers, and the general public; understand and respond to public and staff requests for assistance: on the phone, in writing and in person; prepare detailed and accurate narrative reports. Must be able to sit for up to two (2) hours at a time, lift up to 50 pounds, and get from one location to another in the course of doing business.
Education
High school diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of college level work in an applicable field.
Experience
Three (3) years of work experience demonstrating responsibility and preferably in the fields of recreation, administrative, management, or customer service at time of application. One additional year of education can substitute for one year of the required experience.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver’s license and acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Successful completion of certified AED, CPR and First Aid Safety Course is required within six months of employment.

Candidates whose education, experience and/or training appear to best qualified will be invited to participate in an Oral Interview: 100%.

- Accrued Leave:
Based on the number of hours worked, part-time employees receive a reduced and pro-rated accrual of eighty (80) hours of vacation (first day of employment through year five) and accrual of eighty (80) hours sick leave and eighteen (18) floating holiday hours. Employees receive 11 paid holidays. - Retirement:
Employees hired after January 1, 2013 who are existing CalPERS members or a member of an agency with reciprocity with the City of Diamond Bar will be enrolled in the 2% @ 55 retirement benefit formula. The City pays both the employee and employer share for Classic members. Employees hired after January 1, 2013 who have never been a CalPERS member, or is a member of a retirement system (CalPERS) reciprocal but has a break in service longer than six months will be enrolled in the 2% @ 62 CalPERS retirement benefit formula.Employees contribute half of the normal benefit cost for this retirement benefit.
