Role Description: The R&D Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Lagos State, Nigeria. This role is responsible for leading research and development initiatives focused on improving pineapple varieties, cultivation techniques, and overall farm productivity. Day-to-day tasks include designing and executing field trials, analyzing agronomic and market data, and translating findings into practical solutions for farm operations. The R&D Manager will collaborate closely with farm managers, agronomists, and business leaders to develop and implement innovation roadmaps, standard operating procedures, and best practices. The role also involves preparing technical reports, training farm teams on new methods, ensuring compliance with relevant agricultural standards and regulations, and managing R&D budgets, timelines, and resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Master's/PhD is an added advantage)
- Professional Certifications (HACCP or Food Safety certification is an added advantage)
- Demonstrated expertise in Research and Development (R&D) and applied Research within agriculture, horticulture, or a related field.
- Professional membership of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST).
- Strong Team Management and Team Leadership skills, with experience supervising multidisciplinary teams in a farm or agribusiness setting.
- Proven Project Management capabilities, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting on multiple R&D projects.
- Product formulation, sensory evaluation, Market Trend Analysis, Food Chemistry, New Product Development (NPD), and pilot plant scaling.
- Experience with tropical crops (pineapple experience preferred), experimental design, and data analysis tools.
- Ability to convert research insights into practical field solutions and clear standard operating procedures.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a commitment to sustainability, safety, and regulatory compliance in agricultural operations.
- Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in R&D
- Expatriates from Indonesia, the Philippines, Costa Rica and South Africa etc. is most preferred.
