We are seeking a Quality Assurance Technologist to manage day to day on-line quality, conduct Quality Governance audits and in process control Capability Studies, to interpret quality defects and support both production and technical function to find solutions and achieve Quality compliance in their area.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety:

• Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) act and adhere to all safety requirements, policies, and procedures of the company to ensure a safe working environment.

•Wear the relevant and correct Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) relevant to the workplace to ensure personal safety. • Adhere to all the relevant food safety requirements, policies, and regulations to ensure products are safe for human consumption.

• Use the correct and approved tools and equipment to ensure the work duties are carried out safely with no harm to people.

• Perform all the daily safety checks on the equipment to ensure all safety features are functioning properly, injuries to people and damage to equipment and products are prevented. Identify Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) and report any unsafe acts, conditions, safety risks and good safety practices to ensure work is always carried out safely, hazards are addressed, and a safety culture is created.

• Report all injuries, near miss, water leaks, damage to property, unsafe act and conditions arising from the workplace.

Quality Assurance:

• Ensure effective use of quality standards to ensure quality products.

• Set and ensure availability of standards and confirm conformance to specifications

• Conduct Governance audits using procedures and work instructions to monitor compliance with quality standards

• Co-ordinate external audits using procedures and work instructions.

• Train QA Representatives and production on Quality Procedures

• Adhere to equipment calibration & verification process

• Interpret quality defects and support both technical and production functions to find solutions • Validation of on-line checks and frequencies to ensure optimal quality control.

• Conduct Process Capability Studies to ensure that processes are capable and in control.

• Update specifications in Datalyser and monitor adherence.

• Manage all quality non-conformances

• Lead quality related Problem-Solving using problem solving tool to solve process quality issues

• Coach QA Representatives and Production on the use of problem-solving tools

• Ensure process improvement through effective problem solving Collect and analyse quality data (e.g. customer complaints, top 10 defects for month, HFIs) and take corrective action.

•Report findings to the Quality Management team and ensure loaded on QPulse.

• Contribute to the quality plan when introducing new manufacturing technologies.

• Contribute to the quality control and inspection criteria for new products.

• Ensure effective document control according to ISO requirement for traceability.

• Update and manage Q-Pulse for document and products standards and ensure all customer complaints, non-conformances, internal process complaints are updated with associated RCA and corrective action.

• Oversee project governance ensuring adherence to project protocol

• Monitor compliance with quality plan for production trials and liaise with the project lead on project quality results and standards.

• Oversee inventory management, capturing Non-Conformances, relevant location and carry out cycle counts for different locations.

• Manage and monitor the sorting process by making decisions around high-priority items.

• Manage non-conforming raw material according to standard procedure (raise NCR, process claim, scrap).

• Conduct verification of quality equipment monthly to ensure fit for use.

• Coach production and technical teams in new quality assurance systems, ensuring compliance.

• Co-ordinate and conduct quality related training for the whole plant.

• Generate a quality performance report for the entire plant.

• Attend production meetings providing quality feedback to the team.

Lead the Team

• Lead and manage the team.

• Ensure all Human Capital (HC) responsibilities are fulfilled to create a well-disciplined and focused team, and a co-operative working environment is established within the quality environment.

• Conduct regular performance reviews and manage the performance of direct reports to ensure quality assure deliverables, ensure performance contracts are met and agreed upon personal KPI’s are achieved successfully.

• Identify talent and groom people for succession through coaching, mentoring and individual development plans. • Ensure the quality department is resourced adequately and ensure the necessary recruitment is done to achieve the strategic business objectives.

• Train and coach, the team to upskill, ensure competence, understanding and adherence to all department functions, practices and responsibilities.

• Drive team behavior to ensure adherence to company values and policies.

• Implement a talent pipeline supported by team development plans.

Operational Excellence:

• Lead the Implementation of the operational excellence best practices in the department to reduce costs, improve quality, optimise delivery, and achieve customer satisfaction and retention.

• Coach subordinates to ensure the operational excellence best practices are understood and implemented correctly to achieve the agreed departmental KPI’s.

5S (Housekeeping):

• Comply to Nampak’s 5S standards “(Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain), rules, and requirements to ensure the work area is always clean, orderly, organized, and safe.

• Pay attention to every aspect of your surroundings, including but not limited to the condition of the floors; walls; roof; toolboxes; signage and demarcation.

Report on any items that are in poor condition or do not comply with the standards.

Qualifications:

BSC/Diploma in Food Science or Food Technologist or Quality Assurance Management or other relevant qualification.

Knowledge:

•ISO 9001 / FSSC 22000 standard

• Auditing (Internal and external)

• Non-Conformance processes and procedures

• Root cause analysis • Nampak quality standards

• GMP Principles • Product and processing specifications

• Computer literacy (JDE, QPULSE and Microsoft Suite)

• Minitab software

• Statistical process control

Experience:

•5 years’ experience in quality management in FMCG

• ISO 9001 / FSSC 22000 Internal Auditor experience

• People Supervision experience advantageous
