Job Summary
We’re looking for an experienced Project Conservator to join the Collections Conservation and Care team and help deliver Nature + Love, a landmark National Heritage Lottery Fund project. You’ll assess, conserve, and prepare Natural Sciences collections for a major new permanent display.
Job Description
The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a unique attraction in south‑east London where world cultures and the natural world are brought together for everyone to enjoy. The Museum holds internationally important collections of anthropology, musical instruments, and a popular natural‑history gallery and Aquarium. The 16 acres of beautiful Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and offer stunning views across London.
We are looking for a Project Conservator who will join the Collections Conservation and Care team to deliver the conservation programme for Nature + Love, the Museum’s National Heritage Lottery Fund (NLHF) project. This once‑in‑a‑generation transformation will strengthen the social, economic and green recovery of both the Horniman and its local community, improving access to key outdoor spaces and modernising the 60‑year‑old interpretation in the Natural History Gallery to engage people in mitigating climate and ecological crisis.
You will assess, conserve and prepare objects and support the installation of the Natural Sciences collections for the new permanent display. You will also support the multi‑disciplinary project team to maintain high standards of environmental and physical care necessary to ensure the preservation of the collections for the public’s benefit.
Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Experienced in project conservation within a museum context.
- Knowledge of conservation techniques for natural science objects.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
