The ideal candidate would be responsible for:
- Advice on general disease prevention and treatment.
- Development and management of effective vaccination and medication programmes.
- Interpretation of laboratory results for standard monitoring and diagnosis.
- Preventative lesion scoring in broilers.
- Routine and diagnostic post-mortem evaluation of broilers and breeders.
- Audits on general bird husbandry, bio-security, welfare and housing conditions.
- Involvement in specific projects to improve production Key Performance Indicators.
- Investigations into problem areas within the breeder flocks, hatcheries, broiler flocks and selected meat safety.
- Health attestations for movement of live birds and poultry products in South Africa.
- Maintaining HPAI Vaccination registration of facilities in compliance with regulations of the Department of Agriculture (DoA).
- Maintaining registration of facilities for export / import.
- Communication with State Veterinary Services on controlled diseases and export requirements.
- Formal presentations to production teams and contract producers on various veterinary topics.
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in veterinary science (BVSc, BVMCh or equivalent).
- Veterinary experience in commercial poultry production will be an added advantage.
- Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
