Our client is a leading steel manufacturing company with over two decades of experience producing high-quality steel products for the construction and infrastructure sectors. They are seeking an experienced and hands-on Procurement Officer to manage procurement activities across their steel manufacturing operations, ensuring the timely sourcing of quality materials, industrial machinery, mechanical and electrical spare parts, and production consumables while developing reliable supplier relationships and achieving cost-effective procurement.
Key Responsibilities / Job Description
- Manage procurement requests from Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Stores and other departments.
- Source and evaluate suppliers and obtain competitive quotations.
- Compare quotations based on price, quality, specifications, lead time and payment terms.
- Negotiate prices and commercial terms with suppliers.
- Prepare, monitor and follow up purchase orders through delivery.
- Source mechanical/electrical spare parts, machinery, production consumables and maintenance materials.
- Develop and maintain reliable local and international supplier networks.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Procurement & Supply Chain, Purchasing & Supplies, Business Administration, Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant procurement experience.
- Experience in steel manufacturing, rolling mills, foundries, metal manufacturing, heavy engineering, wire manufacturing or industrial manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of industrial machinery and mechanical/electrical components.
- Strong negotiation, supplier-management and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of the Tanzanian supplier market and international sourcing.
- Good Excel and ERP/procurement software skills; Tally Prime is an advantage.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, integrity and ability to work under pressure.
