Role Description The Principal Researcher is a senior, full-time role responsible for leading complex research initiatives that inform strategic planning, digital transformation, operational excellence, and innovation programs. Based on-site in Malawi, this role designs research frameworks, defines methodologies, and oversees the execution of quantitative and qualitative studies across diverse industries. The Principal Researcher synthesizes data into clear insights, develops evidence-based recommendations, and collaborates with consulting teams to shape client strategies and solution roadmaps. Day-to-day activities include managing research projects end-to-end, guiding junior researchers, ensuring data integrity, and presenting findings to internal stakeholders and clients in a clear, actionable manner. The role also contributes to thought leadership, supports the development of proprietary tools and models, and helps refine best practices for research within the organization.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in research design and methodology, including quantitative and qualitative approaches, survey design, and data collection techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data sets, apply statistical methods, and translate findings into practical insights for strategy and decision-making.
- Experience leading research projects in management consulting, business services, or related fields, with a track record of delivering impactful outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including mentoring research teams, managing stakeholders, and collaborating effectively in cross-functional environments.
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline (such as Business, Economics, Data Science, Social Sciences, or related field) preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Familiarity with digital transformation, operational improvement, or innovation-focused projects, particularly in emerging markets, is an advantage.
