For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

(i) Cumulative service period of six (6) years with relevant work experience, two (2) of which must have been in the grade of Senior Agricultural Officer (Food Technologist) or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service;

(ii) Bachelors in any of the following disciplines: – Food Science and Post-Harvest Technology, Food Science and Technology, Applied Human Nutrition, Home Economics, Home Science or any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;

(iii) Certificate in Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;

(iv) Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution; and

(v) Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Duties and responsibilities at this level entails: –

(i) Monitor compliance with set standards for food handling and management;

(ii) Participate in setting standards for food safety in collaboration with relevant government agencies;

(iii) Implement specific policies and strategies on food technologies;

(iv) Verify and validate food technologies I accordance with set standards;

(v) Develop guidelines and specification for food technologies;

(vi) Implement national and county projects and program;

(vii) Undertake incubation of artisans and SMEs on food technologies;

(viii) Participate in stakeholder collaboration and networking on food safety and available technologies;

(ix) Implement performance contract work plan and budgets; and

(x) Compile periodic reports.
