About The Farm
We are a small family farm in Mebane, Orange County NC operating since 2014. We have an intensive 1 acre market garden growing produce and cut flowers, a 1 acre orchard growing mostly figs, pawpaws, and blueberries, and we raise chickens, ducks, and turkeys for meat. All of our poultry processing is done on farm. All of our produce and flowers are grown following sustainable practices without the use of synthetic chemicals. We sell at the Carrboro and South Durham Farmers’ Market, local restaurants, and wholesale flowers. Our farm is just 15 minutes from Hillsborough, 20-30 minutes from Durham, and 20 minutes from Graham.
Job Description
We are looking to add 2-3 individuals to our poultry processing crew, to start immediately for work through Mid-December. We process on Mondays about every 3 weeks, with increased processing Mondays in the Fall. There are additional poultry daily care and garden work opportunities available outside of the processing workdays for the right person. Our poultry processing days are fast paced and require our crew members to have a high sense of urgency and efficient work ethic qualities. Hours for the processing days are 8-5.
Poultry Processing Duties For The Beginning Crew Members Include
- Plucking
- Packaging
- Cleaning
Processing Duties For The More Experience Crew Members Include
- Dispatch
- Scalding
- Evisceration
- Butchering
Qualifications: Previous poultry processing is not required. We do prefer significant experience in restaurant kitchen work, livestock farming experience, and/or other fast-paced multitasking work experience. Other qualifications include:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be available on Mondays, other workdays are available
- Thorough with a sense of urgency. Cannot stress enough the importance of this.
- Must follow instructions and execute tasks following a demonstration.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently when necessary.
- Required to be at work on time ready to go when scheduled. Must be reliable and consistent.
Compensation: $18/hour starting, will go up with more experience
