About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Are you interested in expanding your scientific role into clinical areas? If you are a good communicator and negotiator, a self-starter and someone who likes problem solving, there is an opening at Awanui Labs for a part-time, fixed-term position of 32 hours per fortnight until the end of October as a Point of Care Testing (POCT) coordinator, working with an experienced POCT team.

The role’s primary purpose is ensuring that our POCT testing meets the needs of HNZ and complies with national POCT standards. The role will primarily be based at our Wellington Laboratory with regular travel to other sites as part of our regional POCT team. Additional comprehensive in-house training will be provided by the POCT team.

Key tasks include management of HNZ point of care testing requirements; deployment of new POCT instruments to sites within HNZ; HNZ staff training and record keeping; annual assessment of HNZ staff competence monitoring when using POCT equipment; quality assurance activities (e.g. equipment monitoring and troubleshooting); coordinating and reviewing IQC and EQA; monitoring of POCT equipment results in the clinical portal via vendor middleware; member of CCHV POCT Governance Committee.

To succeed in this role you will need:

The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.

A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practicing Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technician.

Preferably with experience in Chemistry or Hematology.

Strong IT competence.

Eligible to work in New Zealand.
