Join Steamboat Pets and make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners in Steamboat Springs, Colorado! We’re seeking an experienced Pet Care Specialist for a one-year contract with potential for extension based on performance and fit.
About the Role
As a Pet Care Specialist, you’ll provide professional, loving care to our clients’ pets both in their homes and outdoors. This role involves daily work in a mountain town setting with plenty of outdoor activity, serving clients throughout Steamboat Springs and surrounding area. You’ll build strong relationships with both pets and their owners while ensuring the highest quality of care.
Primary Responsibilities
• Conduct dog walks and hikes in and around Steamboat Springs
• Provide attentive in-home pet care, including feeding, water refreshment, engagement (play and pets), and cleanup when necessary
• Manage overnight stays with pets in clients’ homes (12-hour block overnight)
• Safely handle multiple dogs (never more than four) simultaneously during walks and hikes
• Occasionally barn animal care possible
• Administer oral and topical medications as required
• Maintain clear communication with pet owners and Steamboat Pets management
• Document services provided and pet behavior/health observations
Qualifications
• Professional pet care experience required (examples: veterinary office, pet daycare, boarding facility, in-home pet care services)
• Demonstrated ability to safely manage multiple dogs and handle animals with confidence
• Valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle required
• Strong physical stamina: ability to lift 50 lbs and walk 2-7 miles, sometimes daily
• Excellent communication skills & professional demeanor
• Responsible, reliable, and passionate about animal care
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Steamboat Springs or surrounding area
Compensation & Benefits
• $20-$40 per hour (depending on type of service/booking)
• $120 flat rate for overnight stays
• Keep 100% of your tips
• 20-40 hours per week (daytime hours fluctuate; average of 10 overnights per month available in 2024)
• Included under Steamboat Pets’ business insurance as contractor
• Some on-the-job training provided
• Mileage tracker provided for tax deduction purposes
• Paid monthly via Gusto
