Pet Vet Care Centers’ Smithfield Road Veterinary Hospital is currently seeking a Part‑Time Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist (Care Coordinator) to join our team.

Position Overview
Support veterinarians and technicians with daily clinical and administrative tasks, including maintaining equipment, caring for patients, preparing surgery suites, and handling front‑desk duties, while ensuring a high‑quality experience for all patients and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care to all patients.
- Greet patients and owners upon arrival, register weight and vital signs.
- Triage patients, perform physical exams, administer medication, and assist with treatments under the direction of licensed veterinary technicians.
- Calm and soothe anxious patients; assist with restraint and medication administration.
- Perform laboratory tests, take radiographs, and operate maintenance of hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors).
- Fill prescriptions, calculate and secure controlled drugs, maintain proper documentation.
- Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, detect and report abnormal conditions.
- Communicate positively with clients, ensuring they feel comfortable leaving their pet.
- Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medication plans.
- Maintain cleanliness of the hospital and related equipment using approved chemicals.
- Bath and groom overnight patients, ensuring they are clean at release.
- Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations and follow oral and written directions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and work regularly and reliably at scheduled shifts.
- Respond promptly to directions from the DVM and licensed veterinary technicians.
- Assist with medication pickups, inquiries, and management of practice‑management software, including billing, accounts, cash drawer reconciliation, and end‑of‑day duties.
- Support lobby flow, address concerns, schedule appointments, and assist with specialty areas as required.
Qualifications (Required)
- Previous experience in a general practice Veterinary Assistant position.
- Knowledge of canine & feline vaccines.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience assisting in surgery.
- Spanish‑speaking ability.
Schedule
- Part‑time: 2 days per week, 7:45 AM to 5:30 PM; every other Saturday 7:45 AM–12:30 PM.
