Role Overview

Best Friend Veterinary Clinic is seeking a dedicated and culturally-aligned part-time HR Officer to support our team of veterinary professionals. We are committed to a leadership philosophy that prioritizes team ownership, clear accountability, and positive motivation. The HR Officer will play a pivotal role in sustaining this culture, ensuring smooth daily operations, and moving away from traditional penalty-based management models to foster a highly motivated and responsible clinic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shift & Schedule Management: Develop and manage dynamic staff schedules, ensuring optimal clinic coverage while balancing team well-being and operational efficiency.
  • Performance Evaluation & Development: Facilitate our updated performance evaluation framework. Work closely with clinic leadership to track progress, set clear accountability metrics, and focus on motivation and coaching rather than punitive measures.
  • HR Systems Administration: Manage and maintain accurate employee records, payroll data, and applicant tracking using our existing platforms (ZenHR and ZenATS).
  • Culture & Employee Relations: Act as a primary point of contact for staff inquiries. Champion our team-ownership culture by reinforcing positive behaviors, mediating concerns, and helping staff understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Support the hiring process for future clinic roles by screening candidates through ZenATS and ensuring new hires are seamlessly integrated into our supportive clinic culture.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Human Resources, ideally within a healthcare, veterinary, or clinical setting.
  • Strong understanding of modern, motivation-based performance management and employee retention strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS and applicant tracking software (direct experience with ZenHR and ZenATS is highly preferred).
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail, specifically regarding scheduling and record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster a positive, accountable, and transparent work environment.
