Animal Friends, Inc. is looking for a full-time veterinary technician and wants you as part of the team!
Essential Functions
Acts as surgical lead technician- calculates and administers anesthesia, monitors and recovers patients during the perioperative period
Administer daily medical treatment as prescribed by the Veterinarian
Perform physical exams as directed and document/maintain accurate veterinary records
Prioritize non-critical cases to best facilitate the movement of animals to the adoption floor
Contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of animal areas on a daily basis
(Full-Time) Serve as an “on call” technician, being available for phone calls after hours, on a rotating basis, to respond to emergencies
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required. Veterinary Technician/Assistant Degree Preferred
If not licensed/certified as a veterinary technician, candidates should possess a minimum of three years prior work experience or equivalent in animal care and welfare. Shelter experience preferred
Must have strong background in basic veterinary surgery as a technician or assistant and be comfortable acting as lead for the Shelter Medicine service on scheduled surgical days
Must have strong working knowledge of medical terminology, and be proficient in the following: administering injections (all routes), venipuncture for blood sample analysis, fecal and urine sample analysis, taking radiographs, animal restraint, and accurate record keeping
Must be familiar with animal welfare and animal care
Must be comfortable handling, treating, and restraining dogs, cats, and rabbits of varying size, age, breed, and temperament; other species may be required on infrequent basis
Must be 18 years of age or older
