Position: Park Resource Ranger, DCNR (Seasonal) Laurel Hill State Park

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is on the lookout for a personable, ambitious, and reliable professional to join the team as a seasonal Park Resource Ranger at Laurel Hill State Park. This extraordinary opportunity allows you to play a vital role in enhancing park operations and outdoor recreation while maintaining safe conditions for our visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Visitor Assistance: Provide information, answer questions, and guide visitors through park rules, safety practices, and available activities
  • Safety Monitoring: Inspect park facilities, trails, and beach areas to identify hazards and maintain safe conditions
  • Emergency Response: Respond to incidents, administer first aid or CPR, and contact emergency personnel when necessary
  • Resource Protection: Educate visitors on proper use of park areas and help maintain signs, boundaries, and environmental features
  • Program Support: Assist with guided hikes, environmental education programs, and organized group activities
  • General Maintenance: Perform basic upkeep such as cleaning work areas, checking equipment, and reporting building or grounds issues

Work Schedule and Additional Information

  • This is a seasonal, full‑time position with no healthcare benefits. There is no option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work will be scheduled 37.5 hours/5 days per week. Scheduled days/shifts will vary based on operational needs and will include a 30‑minute lunch. This position is required to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts deemed necessary to meet seasonal needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

  • Special Requirements: All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.
  • Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
