Position: Park & Recreation Ranger 6-E8 (Young State Park)
Location: Boyne City
This position involves participating in daily activities related to the operations of Parks and Recreation Division facilities. The employee will assist the Unit Supervisor/Lead Ranger with administrative tasks, perform operational and maintenance duties, and provide guidance to staff. Responsibilities include maintaining grounds, infrastructure, and equipment, while ensuring safety for oneself, co-workers, and the public.
Position Description
This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employees have 6 months from hire to obtain and hold a CDL if they do not possess one. Training includes a 3-4-week truck driving school, which may require overnight stays.
Attendance at the Parks and Recreation Ranger Operations Academy is mandatory, typically a 4-week course aimed at enhancing knowledge of park rules and operations, also involving overnight stays.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Park and Recreation Ranger 6: No specific experience required.
Park and Recreation Ranger 7: One year in a park/recreation setting or construction trades.
Park and Recreation Ranger E8: Two years of relevant experience, including one year at Ranger 7 level. College credits in natural resources, park management, or outdoor recreation can substitute experience: 8 semester credits for one year, 15 credits for two years.
