Are you a night owl with a love for animals? Join our passionate team at West Charleston Animal Hospital as an Overnight Veterinary Assistant, where you’ll provide crucial care, comfort, and medical support to our furry patients during the vital night hours.
Key Responsibilities: As an Overnight Veterinary Assistant, you’ll use your skills to deliver essential medical care during night shifts while ensuring our facility remains clean and organized. Your role will include, but is not limited to:
Providing compassionate patient care and treatment
Performing janitorial and laundry services in line with established protocols
Monitoring and documenting the behavior and condition of patients
Conducting patient rounds to observe all hospitalized and boarding animals
Qualifications: We’re looking for candidates who are confident in:
The schedule will either be 4×10 or 3×12 fixed most weeks throughout the year, however due to vacations/call outs/staffing/etc it would be helpful for candidates to have some occasional flexibility to help out the team when needed
Administering medications (both oral and injectable)
Monitoring hospitalized patients and communicating with doctors about their status
Setting up and maintaining fluid therapy
Prioritizing tasks and time management
How to take TPRs and knowing normal readings
Able to lift/move patients and crouch/kneel without issue
Restrain patients efficiently and safely
Medicating hospitalized patients
Cleaning and wrapping surgical instruments
Overnight employees are also expected to clean and stock the hospital whenever possible to have everything ready and usable for the day staff
Please note that this is a night shift position, involving both animal care and janitorial responsibilities.
