Overnight Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant

Valley Veterinary Emergency is seeking an experienced and compassionate Overnight Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Senior Veterinary Assistant to join our growing emergency team.

Valley Veterinary Emergency is a well- established emergency veterinary practice dedicated to providing high-quality patient care and exceptional client service. We are proudly connected to McGrath Veterinary Emergency and are located next door, allowing us to work closely alongside an experienced and collaborative veterinary team. Our staff is passionate about animal care and committed to delivering the highest standard of medicine in a supportive, fast-paced environment.

We are currently looking for an overnight team member who is reliable, skilled, and enthusiastic about emergency medicine. In this role, you will assist the on-call veterinarians in providing high-quality care to overnight animal patients, including hospitalized and critical cases.

Pay

The anticipated starting hourly rate for this position is $24.00 to $35.00 per hour.

Compensation will be determined based on schedule, experience, certifications, skills, and overall qualifications.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform veterinary technician duties including:
  • Venipuncture
  • IV catheter placement
  • Basic drug calculations
  • Administration of fluids and CRIs
  • Radiology
  • Obtain, run, and process laboratory samples
  • Monitor and treat critical patients
  • Provide nursing care and treatments to hospitalized pets
  • Follow and uphold isolation protocols
  • Monitor anesthesia
  • Assist veterinarians with:
  • Medical record notation
  • Client communication
  • Patient exams
  • Medical procedures
  • Support emergency procedures such as:
  • Laceration repair setup
  • Urinary blockage/unblocking cat setup
  • Other urgent treatment preparation
  • Safely restrain dogs and cats
  • Administer IV, IM, and SQ injections
  • Perform accurate medical calculations
  • Preferred: urine collection via ultrasound-guided cystocentesis in canine and feline patients
  • Stock supplies and maintain treatment areas
  • Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical packs
  • Assist with general facility maintenance and cleanliness

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of veterinary technician experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • RVT license preferred
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine and terminology
  • Ability to communicate calmly, clearly, and professionally with staff and clients
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of patient vital signs and ability to recognize when doctor intervention is needed

Schedule

  • 10-hour shifts
  • Overnight shift: 8:30 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Schedule includes Thursday, Friday, and Saturday overnights, mixed with a Wednesday swing shift
  • Some holidays required
  • Overtime as needed
  • Weekends as needed

Hospital Hours

  • Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Saturday–Sunday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Overnight on-call DVM coverage: Monday–Sunday, 8:30 PM – 7:00 AM
