Position Overview:
Mountain West Veterinary Specialists – Layton location is looking for full-time overnight (7pm-8am) Veterinary Technician to join our team. We are a rapidly growing, independently and locally owned hospital offering specialty and emergency veterinary services.
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. In this fast-paced role, you will provide critical support to veterinarians during emergency procedures, ensure the well-being of patients, and communicate effectively with pet owners during high-stress situations. This position requires a strong ability to prioritize, multitask, and deliver exceptional patient care in an emergency setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Triage incoming patients to determine the urgency of their conditions.
- Monitor and assess the vital signs of patients, providing stabilization and immediate care as directed.
- Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Assist in diagnostic procedures, including radiology, ultrasonography, and laboratory testing.
- Prepare and maintain equipment and treatment areas for emergency procedures.
- Assist veterinarians during surgeries and critical interventions, ensuring all instruments are sterilized and readily available.
- Collect samples for laboratory testing, including blood draws and cytology samples.
- Place IV catheters, perform wound care, and assist in resuscitation efforts when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a veterinary setting, with prior emergency or critical care experience preferred.
- Proficiency in handling and restraining animals, as well as operating diagnostic, anesthetic, and monitoring equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergencies occur 24/7

Our team works 3 – 13 hour shifts each week. Many of our team members work a set schedule, allowing a work life balance on the remaining days of the week. Due to the 24-hour nature of our hospital, some holidays and weekend shifts are required.
