Practice Advanced Emergency Medicine
As a member of our Emergency Department, you’ll work alongside highly skilled emergency clinicians and specialists, managing a wide variety of cases ranging from urgent care visits to life-threatening emergencies. Our ER is led by Dr. Tracy Schlicksup (DABVP), whose focus on clinical excellence, mentorship, and team development has helped create one of the region’s most respected emergency veterinary programs. You’ll gain experience with:

Primary Responsibilities
- Triage incoming patients and promptly identify urgent or critical concerns.
- Obtain patient histories and communicate findings to the medical team.
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
- Perform blood collection, IV catheter placement, diagnostic testing, radiographs, medication administration, and other clinical procedures based on experience and skill level.
- Monitor patients and immediately report changes in their condition.
- Coordinate care from initial evaluation through discharge, hospitalization, or transfer.
- Provide clients with clear and compassionate communication within the scope of the nursing role.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional medical documentation.
- Communicate effectively with doctors, CSRs, and other nursing team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked outpatient area.
Qualifications
- Previous veterinary experience is required.
- Emergency or urgent care experience is a plus.
- Veterinary technician licensure is preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely handle dogs and cats with varying medical and behavioral needs.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple patients and remain calm during emergencies.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-focused environment.
