Overview:

This full-time Other Personal Services (OPS) position is based out of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC). The FWC is seeking a self-motivated, energetic individual to work as part of the Summer CampInstructor/Counselorteam at the Ocala Adventure Camp (OAC) in the Ocala National Forest. The incumbents will work with the summer camp team to deliver experiential programs designed to engage youth with Florida’s ecosystems through outdoor recreation.

The incumbents will supervise campers during daily activities as assigned and sleep in the cabins with campers ponsibilities include cabin safety inspections and leading night activities.

Programs requiring counselors and instructors at OAC include shooting sports, hunter safety, archery, bowhuntingeducation, freshwater fishing, camping skills, canoeing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing.

Working Hours:Sunday – Friday, over 40 hours per week

Housing/Meals:Lodging will be provided throughout employment, with select meals provided during camp sessions.

Experience Requirement:

A High School Diploma and basic understanding of conservation with prior knowledge of at least one topic: shooting sports, hunter safety, archery, bowhuntingeducation, freshwater fishing, camping skills, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, hiking.

A High School Diploma and at least two months of experience in wildlife conservation fieldwork, conservation, or natural science, and two months of experience working with youth.

Description of Duties:

Facilitate one of OACC’s seven programs as assigned.

Leadhands-oneducational programming or assist instructors with program facilitation.

Help maintain camp educational supplies and equipment.

Supervise daily summer camp activities as assigned.

Complete required training related to ACA standards.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide a welcoming experience to visitors.

Assist with facility operations outside ofeducationprograms as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Comfortable handling firearms and working in loud environments.

Ability to deliver presentations and leadhands-onactivities.

Effective communicationskills, both orally and in writing.

Computer literate in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and swim in deep water.

Position Requirements:

Successful completion of all position-specific training and certifications before the second week of June.

Valid driver’s license with no moving violations within the past two years.

Employment contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check.

Requires work on evenings and weekends.
