Primary Responsibilities
Assist with appointment admission, history collection, and discharges
Call in prescriptions verbally and / or send electronically
Provide follow-up care for patients and clients
Educate clients on drug side effects, toxicity, half-life, nadir, and handling of animal waste products during chemotherapy
Educate clients on basic cancer treatments, including survival times and metastasis sites
Follow hospital policies on client communication and concerns
Coordinate with doctors, technicians, and assistants on patient status
Maintain respectfulcommunication among coworkers and with referring veterinarians
Record vitals and provide prescribed nursing care
Handle patients gently, requesting sedation as needed
Administer medications and collect samples for diagnostics
Ensure accurate charting and timely treatments
Practice animal restraint safely
Perform venipuncture and IV catheter placement
Administer oral and parenteral medications
Anesthesia
Use anesthetic and monitoring equipment knowledge
Develop anesthetic plans from pre-anesthesia to recovery
Administer and monitor anesthesia, analgesics, and sedatives
Ensure vascular access and monitor parameters
Perform anesthesia for CT or other procedures
Calculate drug doses and routes of administration
Imaging
Follow radiation safety protocols
Position and capture radiographs
Assist with CT and ultrasound procedures
Order and review diagnostics
Laboratory
Prepare supplies and submit samples properly
Set up for FNA and other tests
Perform basic lab tests and cytology
Chemotherapy Administration
Prepare materials and restrain patients during chemo
Monitor infusion sites and calculate drip rates
Verify chemotherapy dosages and calculations
Handle chemotherapeutic agents safely and dispose of waste properly
Manage spills and extravasations with safety precautions
Other Tasks
Maintain medical records and inventory
Enforce OSHA and safety standards
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Participation in on-call rotation
Willingness to work rotating holidays
Compensation
Starting at $28-$35 / hr based on experience, with shift differentials and benefits including continuing education, pet discounts, health insurance, and 401k. Weekend differential of $2 / hr applies for weekend shifts.
Work Hours
Full-time, minimum 30 hours / week, with flexibility required for departmental needs.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Veterinary Technician Program preferred
WA license or transferable out-of-state license
Minimum 2 years in specialty medicine, oncology preferred
Excellent communication, teamwork, flexibility, punctuality
