Bristol Humane Society is growing, and we’re looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our medical team.

We’re not the same clinic we were a few years ago. Today, Bristol Humane Society’s Low-Cost Veterinary Center includes both the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic and our expanded Health & Wellness Clinic, giving our medical team the opportunity to care for pets in more ways than ever before.

We’re looking for an LVT who enjoys working as part of a team, wants to use their training and skills, and believes accessible veterinary care can make a real difference in a community.

Schedule: 32–40 hours per week
Pay: Starting at $20 per hour, with pay based on experience

What You Might Be Doing

Depending on your experience and where you’re needed, your days may include working in both our high-volume spay/neuter and wellness settings.

You may:

  • Work alongside our veterinarians to provide excellent patient care from intake through discharge
  • Monitor anesthetized patients and assist with induction, intubation and recovery
  • Prepare surgical patients and assist with high-volume spay/neuter procedures
  • Perform laboratory testing and other diagnostic procedures
  • Draw blood, administer medications and vaccines, and provide treatments under veterinary direction
  • Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats
  • Monitor patients before, during and after procedures
  • Educate clients about preventive care and help them understand their pets’ healthcare needs
  • Help maintain an organized and efficient patient flow in a busy clinical environment
  • Put your knowledge, training and licensed technician skills to work every day

What We’re Looking For

  • Current Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license or eligibility for Virginia licensure
  • Experience working with dogs and cats in a veterinary clinical setting
  • Strong patient care and animal-handling skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a busy medical team
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Surgical, anesthesia, high-volume spay/neuter and/or wellness experience is a plus
