Position Summary
This is an entry-level position on the Landscape Pesticide Crew and is responsible for making and assisting with pesticide applications on campus turf and landscape areas under close supervision. The position involves manual labor and will work with the crew on pesticide applications under the supervision of the Landscape Pesticide Specialist, Horticulture Foreman, and Manager. The role includes maintaining accurate pesticide application records, ensuring applications follow label recommendations, and using appropriate PPE.
The position may assist maintenance and horticulture crews as needed and may work in other grounds-related tasks to meet departmental goals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Pesticide application experience on landscapes and turfgrass
- Plant and turfgrass knowledge
- Plant and turfgrass disease/insect knowledge
- Preferred experience in grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate grounds maintenance and landscaping equipment (mowers, tractors, trimmers, edgers, backpack blowers, skid steers)
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
Physical Demands
- Constant physical labor 8 hours a day, 5 days a week
- Extensive stooping, bending, squatting, and working with hands overhead
- Lift up to 75 lbs consistently
- Perform heavy labor under varying weather conditions
Responsibilities (Duties)
- Makes basic pesticide applications to campus turf and landscapes (50%)
- Assist Landscape Pesticide Technicians and Specialist with specialized pesticide applications (35%)
- Maintain pesticide application records (10%)
- Respond to campus emergencies including inclement weather events (5%)

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent
FLSA: Non-Exempt
FTE: 1.00
